Specs - G4 400 tower running OS X Server 10.1.2. Each volume is shared. I'm connecting to it via a powerbook G4 500 with OS X 10.1.3 (had the same problem with 10.1.2).

I am able to log into the server and view files, but when I try to edit them I get "permission denied". In addition, the finder windows have the pencil with the line through it, showing now write access.

I am using the Server's admin l/p to log in. I've also created another account with the Server Admin and it has the same problems. Specifically I'm trying to access [boot drive]/Library/WebServer. I have the same problem with another partition and general files.

When I go into the Server Admin and set permissions for the drive to my admin as the owner and copy the permissions throughout the drive, it will work for a little bit. Now I can't get Server Admin to launch in X.1.3 so that doesn't work anymore either. It didn't work 100% of the time before.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks much.

You are not doing anything wrong. As a security precaution you are not able to remotely edit anything in the main library directory. Whicht he default webserver root resides in. A way to get around this would be to set the default webserver root to a folder that is not protected. :)
