I think the single biggest hole in the 10.1.2 user interface is the Application Switch Menu (including the "Hide Others/Show All" stuff). Frank Vercruesse deserves great credit for recreating it, and everyone should download it and send the guy a few bucks! (I have no connection with this author, I just like his software.)

Next, Apple should buy the code, polish it up, and integrate it into MacOS X 10.2... Ridiculous oversight on their part.

I like ASM too. But now I have been using X-assist, which has a little more function. Quitling too is a good switcher, and it also allows you access to background processes. All three would be excellent choices for people who would like an application switcher function in the menu bar.
