I have a problem with Outlook express when used in the Classic mode of OS-X. It works fine for downloading and sending messages. but when I try to display a large file it locks up the classic environment. I let it sit for a while to see if it would eventually finish whatever its trying to do N.G.

I have Sys 9.2.2 OE version 5.0.3 with 20 megs allotted to it and it still happens. I've tried different sets of Sys 9 ( normal, base 9.2, all 9.2 ...) but still the problem persists.

when I start from System 9 with out OS-X running everything is fine. Anybody have a suggestion?

I have had a similar event happen, but only when trying to import my OE mail into Mail.app. What I haven't tried yet is starting Classic with NO extensions whatsoever, and then starting OE. I haven't tried this yet because everytime I have tried this, I have ended up with damage to my OS9 partition that even DiskWarrior could not fix. I'm thinking of upgrading to Entourage 2001 first, and then moving from that ot Mail.app

I didn't have a problem importiing into Mail. That worked fine. What version of X are you running? Version 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 are both stable. I figured out that there is an extension conflict causing my problem. I started "classic" off another drive with System 9.2.1 (all) and my printer drivers added, and it works fine. The problem system was 9.2.2. I recall there was some Open Transport conflicts with 9.2.2 and "Classic" mode, but I don't recall specifics. I'll have to try playing when I get more time.

As to your problem make sure Classic is system 9.2 or greater and OS-X is 10.1.2 or 10.1.3. This should solve your Mail problem. There are discussion lists for X at <http://www.themacintoshguy.com/lists/X.html>. They've been discussing problems with Mail lately. One of the subscribers is a guy called "Cricket" he's one of the programmers for mail. Hope you problem gets solved.
