I have two dual processor G4's running OSX Server. Under both 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 ( maybe 10.1.1) I have encountered the following problem. I have set up IP Filtering using the GUI IP Filter Panel in Server Admin. The rules work when IP FIltering is running. And the IP Filter is set to run when the system boots. However, when the system is rebooted, ipfw does not load its rules (I've checked in the CLI). So, my web and other services are not aviailble, since by default, all access is denied. Server Admin shows the IP Filtering is off. However, it must be running since all access is denied (the default rule). When I use Server Admin to start IP Filter, I get a message that says there is a configuration problem and it can't be started. I f try a second time, it fires right off and all is fine. On my primary server, this happens everytime I reboot. On my other server, it happens only periodically. The "fix" (starting the IP Filter twice) works on both. This reminds my of the problem with the Apache web server on earlier versions of OS X Server where it wouldn't start reliably using the GUI. I know that the IP Filter GUI configs are stored in Netinfo but using the NetInfo manager, I can't see any problems. Any thought son how to clean this up? I need to be able to 1) have the server reboot on its own and come back up with the IP Filter running as well as the web services. As it is now, I must physically be at the machine to do a reboot. A remote reboot (say with Timbuktu) will lock me out when the system comes backup with all remote services denied.
