I was downloading some music from the Music Store today and decided to plug in my iPod (third generation, 30 gig). Kernel panic, right away. I left the iPod plugged in and reset the machine. Once again, kernel panic. After I unplugged the iPod, my iBook booted normally.
I ran Disk Utility and got the following output:
We are using special permissions for the file or directory ./System/Library/Filesystems/hfs.fs/hfs.util. New permissions are 33261
After Disk Utility was done, I rebooted and everything has been fine since. I'm just posting this in case anyone ever runs into this problem.
By the way, iTunes' "Check for Purchased Music" function was able to resume my music store downloads.
