I had a permissions problem opening up classic and I fixed that with "sudo chmod 775 /System/Library/CoreServices".
But now when I open up classic I get the message "There are no localized Classic-specific resources to update the system folder on Hard Drive. Please select another startup disk." Now this message left me absolutely clueless. I need help on this one please.

Before changing Classic permissions its generally best to choose the System Folder you want to boot as Classic in the Startup Disk preference pane and then boot from it. This will solve most Classic permissions problems. There are a number of setuids that can get screwed up by making blanket permissions changes in your system.

I'm not having a problem booting up in classic. not am I having trouble with classic permissons anymore. The porblem I have is the message I get when I try to open Classic in OS X. The startup disk is for booting the system from that system folder. I have tried a lot of things, but I just have no clue as to the message i get.

this rattled a swizzle stick in my brain. this is a rather old issue (circa 2000).
i did a google: [ "no localized Classic-specific resources to update" ]
found this (and some others)...
http://www.macosx.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=240
please be very slow and careful about repairing this issue, as the solution above is rather dated.
is this a new install? has anything drastic changed recently?

I was looking through the postings and it said I should have Classic.app in my Applications folder. Well i don't see it there. Is this a problem. I do have a Classic Startup.app in /System/Library/CoreServices/. should I have the Classic.app in my Applications folder?

Ok I went to the message board and did what it says. Although when I launched Classic it didn't install any files. I still get that freakin ass message.

tell us: what version of OSX? what version of OS9? what international language is the OS9 install?
what message board did you go to? what did it say to do? what did you do? were there any errors in what you did?
assume that we aren't reading the board you are following, and assume we are not mind-readers. we are, sometimes, but not today.

Ok. I have OS X version 10.1.3. I have OS 9.1. Both systems are English versions. I had gone to the message boad that you sent me the link for. When i went into root. I did what it said and it said that i was supposed to. It didn't work at all. Go to the message board link http://www.macosx.com/forums/showth...hp?threadid=240 and the second post from the top told me what to do. i did exactly that and I still get the message as i gt before.

hmm, well, something isn't kosher. for some reason, OSX thinks OS9 needs locale resources that aren't available.
any illuminating messages in console or system.log?
back to the original issue...
can you tell us more about your "permissions problem opening up classic and I fixed that with [ sudo chmod 775 /System/Library/CoreServices ]"
did you use "chmod -R" ?
show us the results of:
% ls -l /System/Library/CoreServices
and
% ls -l "/System/Library/CoreServices/Classic Startup.app/Contents/Resources/TruBlueEnvironment"

Ok... the permission problem... Ever since I installed OS X.1 I was never able to open up Classic in OS X because it gave me the you don't have permissions crap from /System/Library/CoreServices So iw as talking to some huys and they told me to use the command sudo chmod 775 /System/Library/CoreServices. And once i put that in i got the "There are no localized Classic-specific resources to update the system folder on Hard Drive. Please select another startup disk." junk.

well, that looks copacetic, except, what is this file?
drwxr-xr-x 17 chris unknown 534 Feb 24 17:59 Preferences
i can't say that it's a problem, but i don't think it belongs there. do you know how that got there? what's in it?
can't say i like this in there either:
drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 264 Sep 7 02:16 Assistant.app
try launching Assistant.app and tell us what it does.
perhaps try renaming that Preferences file to xPreferences and Assistant.app to xAssistant.app to get them out of the way?
could you upgrade OS9.1 to the next rev up? perhaps that's something to try.
whatever you do, you should make provisions to be able to put it back the way it was if it gets worse.
and did you check console and system.log for messages when you try to launch classic?
that's all i've got for now.

Ok, today I decided to launch Classic for the hell of it to just make sure I was getting the same message. But when I launched it I got something completely diff. Worse i think. Now when i launch Classic i get white type infront of black. I still see stuff behind it. But the type says stuff about Kernel and at te bottom of the message it says something about debugging. and it gives me an option to reboot or debug by either typing 'r' or 'c'. But the problem is I can't type anything because it freezes my computer everytime I try. I doubt anyone has had this problem. After I gave you the list of permissions of my files. I didn't touch a thing in the system folder so I have no idea when this thing came to be.

that's called a kernel panic. others get it as well, and it is not good.
i would think that your classic environment is compromised, either in OSX land or OS9 land.
time to consider reinstalling everything. and being very careful about fiddling around in sudo as root.
