View Full Version : Menu Bar Notification, just a thought

Why Can't I be U

Hi all

I suppose this thread could also be directed at Apple for future features, but I'm thinking that some smart person/s out there could do this.

I have read many threads here and on other forums, for and against the bouncing icons in the dock. Now I think that it would be a good idea to allow notification of new mail, errors etc in the menu bar (like the monitor controls etc) as this is in most cases the one thing that is alway visable.

I would preferably like it for email notification as I have the dock hidden most of the time apart from in the finder.

I have seen a stock market ticker that uses the menu bar so I'm assuming its not too difficult ;) . I would atempt it myself but I have no clue when it comes to programming or suchlike.

What do you think or if you know of anything?

Thanx

Good ideas, "Why," but I'm moving this to our Wish List thread, where it seems more suited. Look for further discussion of the topic there.

I fount something, its not a dockling and does not work for imap but else it's great. But, please tell me if you find a similar tool for the dock which supports imap.

the ticker is called mailticker and you find it here:

What's MailTicker about?
Originally, it only started as something I wrote for myself; Mail.app sometimes has problems connecting to my mail server and starts jumping around in the Dock and putting up error messages. I wanted a small application that checks my mail account from time to time and has the option to ignore errors and does not open additional windows to notify me of new messages (unlike other mail checkers I know).
Only then, a friend of mine said that he liked it and that I should make it public.
