Let's say I shutdown my computer in OSX and the next time I go to use my computer, I want to start up in OS9. Does anyone know of a start-up key combination that would force your computer to look for OS9 instead of having to start up to OSX then go through the hole choosing a start-up disk routine???

the option key alone gets you to an open firmware boot screen, listing the bootable volumes it can find (give it a little time).

holding down command-option-shift-delete will pass-by the designated startup disk and find _the next_ boot volume in order. it may be the cd, or another bootable volume on the same drive as the designated boot volume, or the first bootable partition on the next volume in the lookup list.

if you boot to open firmware boot screen (option only key) it should list boot volumes in the order that boot considers them.

there's an X key option to boot OSX. perhaps there's a 9 key option to boot OS9?

Thanks mervTormel!!!!
I tried all those combinations but <command- option- shift- delete> was the only one that worked! I thought that was only for forcing a start from a boot disk?

I thought <option> would work, but it didn't do anything? Wasn't I holding my mouth right??

I have found that <option> does not work for me, either. I suspect it is because I am running an old Beige G3, 266mhz, and my firmware is too old.

***The option key startup trick will not work if both systems (ie System and System Folder for OSX and OS9 respectively) are on the same partition. I believe it also needs a new world machine (updateable firmware).

I believe the New World firmware is the issue. I know mine doesn't have it.
