hey all,
i guess i am getting to used to using SNAX, but is it possable to NOT have a finder window open up when i click on the Finder icon in the dock? the only reason i need to ever go to the finder to connect to server (wich is about all i go to the Finder for) that are not yet supported in SNAX yet. is there a way to turn this automatic finder window feature off? it is not in Finder Preferencecs (were it should be). anybody got any ideas? thanks.

If you click on the desktop it will switch to Finder without opening a window.

thats true. unless you are using SNAX, then you are actually clicking on the SNAX desktop (after you turn this preference on).
i did come to a resolve for this problem. i now have an apple script in my startup items that closes all finder window, makes a new one with negative values so it is off the screen. now i get no new finder windows, because there is one open, its just off screen. there is little i need to use the finder for with SNAX isntalled, but there are a couple instences when it is needed to go to the finder. i should have stated in my original post that i am using SNAX.

This is not true in my case:
If I have several finder windows open and then I hide the Finder, when I click on the desktop, all of my finder windows will return front and center.
In order for me to prevent them from returning front and center, I have to minimize all of my finder windows on the dock.
With the assumption that my Finder windows are not minimized,
How do I prevent my Finder windows from returning front and center when I click on the desktop? I looked in the preferences, but I am not able to find anything on preventing Finder windows from returning front and center when I click on the desktop.
thx

Thanks yellow, I will start a new thread, but I have some questions about your reply.
I thought that resurrecting threads from the dead was a good thing. If the moderators don't want members bringing old threads back to life, why don't they close these threads?
How old is too old to reply to a thread, 3 years, 1 years, 6 months?
thx

This thread is about using SNAX (with Jaguar? Puma?). Your question is not about using SNAX.

This is why it's a good idea for people to mention what version of the OS they're asking about in their posts (and maybe even in the thread title).
There's probably a great many issues and pieces of advice that will not migrate between Panther and Tiger, as well, so it would be best if we all steel ourselves for this eventuality. ;)

Thanks yellow for clarifying the details. I now understand that the thread is about SNAX, but that was not mentioned to me in your first reply to my post.
You may it a very STRONG point to bring up the fact that the site was, in your words...

You didn't mention anything about me posting on the wrong thread. I was feeding off the title of the post, "click finder icon in dock = no new finder window?"
So which is it now?
Is the site too old?
Am I posting on the wrong site?
or both?
I am still interested in knowing how old is too old?
I will probably make a mistake from time to time (to error is human) and post on the wrong site; but if I at least have some guidelines about how old is too old, I can avoid making the same error twice.
I think that Craig brings up a good point about the version of the OS running before posting. If the post could be searched by the version of OS, Jaquar, Panther, Tiger, etc... It would go a long way in clearing up confusion in the future
thx

The details don't really matter. I hate to say it, but I don't really have to explain my position. This thread is very, very, very old, and your issue has very little to do with what the original post was about. Therefore, please start a new thread with your issue.
