I think that links need to be a different color than the message text.

Make your own stylesheet (http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12898&perpage=20&highlight=style%20sheet&pagenumber=3) mb?

nope. here, this does not color links in the forums:

a:link { color: blue; text-decoration: none; }
a:link:active { color: black; outline: gray 1px dotted; }
a:visited { color: navy; text-decoration: none; }
a:visited:active { color: black; outline: gray 1px dotted; }
/* a:hover { color: red; text-decoration: underline; } */
a:hover { color: blue; text-decoration: underline; }

Well, it's nice on pages with mostly body text and just a few links (like the contents of a topic), but it reduces the readability of pages that are primarily just links (like forum lists, search results, ...)

I preferred the old way where links were just underlined.

Besides, shouldn't they be pink, Rob? ;)

believe it or not, I know one of the people who spent hair splitting countless hours working on that commercial.
he wrote a website on the making of it...but I can't seem to find the url at the moment. If I can find it later, I'll post it.

the QT movie (http://www.beam.tv/beamreels/beamreel.php?dzjgijxl) is awesome! ~12MB large.

Why not use p a {...} so that only links in a paragraph tag (anything in a post) get blue?

That Honda Cog reel is nice!

Thanks for sharing.. :)

That Honda ad reminds me of something (http://www.postmedia.net/999/fischweiss1.htm).

By the way, link colour sux. I'll get used to it.

it's like that game, The Incredible Machine, or something like that, that i used to play all the time on my 386 pc.

it was really fun. and talk about weird. you could have a canon firing canonballs at monkeys and mice running in caged wheels while flashlights, with the help of a finely-placed magnifying glass, could ignite candles, etc...

must find a link...

in fact, there's a big, stinky lawsuit brought by those guys. ironically, no one was interested in their film until they say honda cog and then explored the history. google for it.

Adding the intelligence to only code the links inside of a story posting would (a) take a lot of time, (b) make it so I couldn't easily upgrade the site in the future, and (c) not be possible without outside help ;-). I will, however, submit it as a feature request to the vBulletin team...

As for the colored links, maybe I'll run a poll and see what the general populace thinks...

I just saw it. Lawsuit, for prior art?!? The small movie was good, inspirational. This lawsuit is laughable, it's a small rip-off, it's not shot-for-shot.

re: Link color - poll is a good idea.

Some indication of a link is a good thing. I personally hate underlining -- underlines are for emphasis or titles. So if the issue is whether or not to color links at all, I'd vote yes. If the issue is which color to use, I don't care as long as it's still readable and different enough from regular text to stand out (without being something like double-size).

Hmm.. Let's see here.

Colored links are good because:
1) They make a link obvious.
2) They make a link look like a link, instead of underlined text.

Colored links are bad because:
1)

it's not the end of the world, but on the margins, i don't like the colored links.

How many posts do you think will consist of a whole page of links?

hmm, here, the link color is rather indigo...

example (http://bduart.home.mindspring.com/clvnp.jpg)

(which is fine on my eyeballs)

rather than the bright blue of, say, memepool (http://www.memepool.com/)

I just turned it down another shade on the "blue" scale so it's a bit darker. Hopefully, links are still visible (http://www.visible.com) as a unique color, but don't glare out quite so much next to the black text (gads, that's a not too neat looking website!)

Coloured links are fine in my book, subtle is good too.

Much nicer as a darker colour.

My partially colorblind eyes can no longer see the links. But if I'm the only one with this problem (and it sounds like I am), I guess I'll deal with it.

You have a good point. As a general tip, I suggest this (http://www.vischeck.com/vischeck/vischeckURL.php) website. It simulates color-blindness when looking at webpages, it catches most things.
