I'm trying to set up mailserver and need to cover these bases:
a. pop3
b. secure
c. imap support
d. web mail support
e. easy remote web-based administration
f. spam control, and maybe virus checking

Here are the pieces I've assembled so far, please someone let me know if I've omitted anything.
postfix
acme web mail
webmin
openssl and netssl
procmail
qpopper

any thoughts anyone?

If not, consider Stalker's Communigate. I use their free OS 9 version www.stalker.com (http://www.stalker.com). Mailing list support is very good.

I do wish they were doing a freeware version of their app that was at least carbonized, but freeware is what it is...

Postfix is free.
We are currently using Communigate (free version) and it ain't handling the load we are putting it to. (Over 800 users)
Communigate hasn't been updated in a while, whereas Postfix is actively updated.
Postfix will be run under MacOS X....which is much faster and more stable and easier to remotely administer.
