Hi,

My Quicksilver 867 (w. CD-RW/DVD-ROM, not Superdrive) refuses to mount a number of DVD movies. This is particularly odd because I have used some of the movies in the same drive before. It can read a few of my collection, and has no problem reading and writing CD's. I have tried the offending movies (about 5 titles, several brand new) in both OS 9 and OS X.1.2, to no avail.

I recently downloaded the CD-RW G4 Firmware upgrade with the OS9 software update, but I was under the impression it wouldn't install if I was using a DVD drive. Could this somehow be the culprit? Is there a way to check what firmware you have installed on a drive? Thanks for any help you can provide.

you might be able to see the firmware version in Apple System Profiler

make sure the device is on and launch:

/Applications/Utilities/Apple System Profiler

from the finder

select the devices tab, let it scan, and toggle the disclosure triangle to see what it knows about your drive.
