Well actually it's my friends iPod.
I plugged a 15Gb windows formatted iPod (fairly old one) into my iBook, and I'll be damned if it didn't get reformatted.
Needless to say, my friend was less that thrilled and I my life was spared only because the collection was backed up elsewhere.
Now I turned of the autosychronization thing in iSync, but that looks like its for .Mac and iDisk, not for the iPod/iTunes problem. I just wanted to me able to access the files on the iPod, and possibly moves a few things back and forth, but only a few. How do I turn off the autosync and use the iPod more like a disk?

On another note, how does one get a Windows laptop to recognize an iBook that has been booted as a firewire drive? Is this possible?

Let me know, thanks.

If you are sure that the iPod is formatted for a mac now, and since your friend has his music library still just tell him to plug the iPod into his Windows PC and reinstall the windows iPod firmware. Note that he has to RESTORE the firmware, not UPDATE it, in fact update probably won't even be an option since windows won't recognize the file hfs+ file system. I had to RESTORE my iPod's Mac firmware when i switched it from a WinPod to a MacPod. But i'm sure it will work for your situation.

Let me know if this works....i am very curious as to why you think that your iBook would just AutoFormat an iPod....i mean if it happened, it happened simple as that :-)

Hmm, but OS X machines can read/write and mount to FAT32 partitions. Maybe apple just designed them that way.
