Hi there !
I was wondering if one of you use the new version of QTSS for mac os X.
It works well.
However I'd like to know if there is a way to have mp3 files streamed from the QTSS ?
I know it's possible to do it via a playlist but that's not what I'm looking for.
- either I would like to have one of the songs of the playlist played (via a link)
- or being able to stream one of the mp3 files I have in my Movies folder (as you can do it with a .mov file).
Thank you in advance !

Type "MP3Broadcaster" (no quotes) in the terminal and see if that's what you are looking for. You might want to take a look at Netjuke - and MP3 Jukebox that allows you to access your MP3 collection from any machine via browser interface, select songs, create playlists, etc. I use it and it works great!

QTSS4 and DSSS4 can broadcast unmodified MP3s radio style, that is, like Shoutcast or Icecast. Unfortunately to play individual files on demand requires converting the MP3 to a .mov and hinting it. There are some benefits to streaming a hinted file but the downsides are the extra step of converting & hinting (which I think can be AppleScripted) and the limitation of clients.
There are a number of open source systems which can make playing MP3s on demand quite easy. Some are modifications for Apache or Perl, some are standalone. Edna for example is a very basic Python script which runs as a web server and will generate .m3u playlists on the fly for directories of MP3s.
Search for "MP3" at freshmeat.net and look for items filed under Server.

I'm using QTSS/DSS to run QT video and wanted to know if there's any script or code that will work WITH QTSS/DSS to generate .m3u playlists on the fly for directories of MP3s.
If not, since I'm stuck with using QTSS/DSS for video, is there a robust 3rd party app that will work with Apache 1.3 (MacOS X) that won't interfere with a locally hosted Webserver+QTSS Combo?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Best,
-Jenn
