View Full Version : Not quitting Classic when changing users
Does anyone know how to get Classic to stay running when swapping between users? My four year old is unlikely to have the patience to wait for it to load each time she wants to play with a CD!
:)
Thanks in advance

I don't think you can, because Classic runs as an application and all apps, including the Finder quit between logouts/logins...unless you got Classic to run as a daemon...but I wouldn't know how.

This was discussed in detail somewhere (not sure where I read it), and the short answer seemed to be that Classic relies on things that are running within the OS X user environment. When you logout, you lose those things, so Classic couldn't keep running.
At least, that's how I remember the story, but it might be 100% incorrect ;-).

I actually filed a feature request for this feature via Apple's radarweb. Their reply was that it could not be done with the way that Classic integrates with X. That does not mean that an enterprising person could not come up with a way to do it. I've had the True Blue Environment last through a logout / login. Of course Classic hangs and needs to be force quit when that happens - but maybe it is not entirely impossible.
