Disrespect of Mac OS X Hints

Hello all,

I can't believe people will rant over whether a hint should have been posted or not. Clearly there are errors made, but wouldn't you rather have more hints than less here? After all, everyone is of varying skill levels, and even bad hints seem to inspire good conversation with alternatives, etc. And when replying, I think we should all respect that we're part of one community, and try to avoid insulting the hint author, the site publisher, or each other ... it makes it a more pleasant place to read and play.

Which hint would you be referring to?
One thing to note is that many of the commenters on the Hints side, do not populate the Forums side and vice versa.

I'm not referring to a particular hint just most hints in general. You can see by browsing the replies to the hints posted, people are ungraetful it seems because they would rather criticize then not post at all. Some examples of this would be complaining about the hint not really being a hint, point out the hint's faults, etc.

It is just annoying.

We're downright 'knock 'em over with politeness' here, compared to many of the other online forums.

That was among the motives for starting this little venture. :)


Edit, I think folks recognize that Rob, Phil, John, Brian, Pedro and I don't smile upon a 'battlefront' type atmosphere here.

And if they don't, they'll learn to. :D

The internet tends to bring rudeness out in people. It's the impersonal nature of it all. Some skinny teenage dork with a minimum wage job can feel like a big man calling people 'b!tches', 'dumb@$$' and whatnot. It irritates me. Part of the reason I don't chat (and never will).

Hi cougar, I agree with you that some of the postings on the hints side are a little whiny. No big deal compared to some of the other Mac sites, but a little.

On the other hand, I tip my cap to the moderators and participants here on the forum side. I really appreciate this place, it's exceptional.
