Has anyone else noticed that some applications don't want to open files when they are double-clicked from the Finder? I'm using Newton Toolkit (NTK) and MPW to do C++ development for the Newton (two particular applications that will never be ported to Carbon! Unless someone with Apple connections would like to help me out..).

For example, I've got two files MPW text files in the same directory, same type and creator codes (TEXT and MPW), no extensions. One opens, the other doesn't (MPW activates, but doesn't do anything). If I open the one that doesn't from inside MPW and copy it over to a new file and save that with the same name, suddenly it will open from the Finder.

The same thing happens with NTK, except that NTK gives me an error that the file was not found (!).

This might, however, just be my disk being flaky (it needs to be reformatted and started over from the beginning..)

I've read that this can (sometimes) be cured by setting your timezone correctly. If you leave it on GMT then double-clicking in classic can be broken.

A few Brits run into this problem because they left the timezone on GMT, thinking that was ok for the UK. They should have used 'London' so that daylight saving changeovers kick in.

I see you're in the USA, but maybe you also have left it on GMT.

See System Preferences -> Day & Time -> Time Zone.
