The new update for iPod lets you add contact information from Mac OS X Address Book. I've found that the trick to easy imports is to drag and drop the contents of Address Book directly into the iPod's new contact folder.

There is one file in the folder called "ipod_created_instructions.vcf". When you open the file on the ipod it is text and you can scroll down and read the instructions.

Cool. So I'm thinking wouldn't it be nice to cut and paste a web article or short story or whatever and be able to read it will listening to music on the iPod? I think it might be possible to find an application that can write the .vcf format. Does anyone have a suggestion on what app can save in this format? In Address Book the fields are all pre-defined sizes.

Thanks!

Asked and answered. I found an app at ipodlounge.com. It's called "podnotes". You paste into textedit bring podnotes to the front and tell it to make a new note. It'll write one in the .vcf file format and place it on your ipod. Problem is, there is a limit of 1100 characters. Too small for a book, but good for notes. Hopefully Apple will expand the size limitation in future updates!
