I saw this interesting DockDisks utility over in a MacNN thread (http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=46&t=004947). I downloaded it and tried it out. Works very nicely. Now I have no more volumes on my desktop. Only things on my desktop are stiff that I have downloaded and need to be taken care of in the immediate future. One caveat, every time a new volume is mounted, the Dock restarts, so you lose any minimized windows. Despite that, I found this an excellent utility.

Thanks, thundarr! I'll give it a try.

This one sounds like it's both a tweaking utility as well as a software piece deserving of review, so I'll move it to Tweaks and leave an pointer here.

Same for Visage.

(old systematists never die; they just become annoying)

I wasn't sure where they would go, as both were software reviews and hints to tweak the system. Of course, they might do better over here 'cause lots of people are interested in tweaks. Good thing you have the moderator job (among other excellent reasons). Anyway, I hope these posts will help some people interested in some good stuff. :)

One good thing about this forum software, thundarr, is that you can transfer a thread and leave it listed in the other forum; clicking on it there brings you to the one it was moved to.

So the software/tweaks has two listings instead of just one: even better! :)

One question, is there a way I can get rid of the background in the dock, or make it transparent maybe?

Tweaker, you can use Transparent Dock (http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=11295&db=mac). Works great, and it's free.

Okay, that makes sense. Sorry, that message just confused the heck out of me... I wrote DockDisks, which was the topic of this thread and is what I was replying to, not TransparentDock, and I was trying to figure out why I would have written you a check when I was fairly certain I hadn't...

Add to that the fact that it was fairly early in the morning and I had just gotten up when I wrote that, and...

I don't know if you get much in the way of feedback, but DockDisks is exactly what I have been wishing for. Thanks again for making this excellent utility. I am appreciating it more and more with every day I use it!

Great little utility the only thing i don't like is that the dock has to relaunch for new drives to show in dock or leave the dock.

Daniel :)
