I have a beige G3 mini-tower with a PCI ATI Radeon card installed in it, which works beautifully in Mac OS X. My only complaint about it is that apparently, the video driver for the radeon doesn't load until the window manager/Quartz loads, because my monitor kicks on right when the white "Mac OS X" screen comes up. If I connect my monitor to the onboard video, then I get a blue screen with a spinning wheel for a while (the same amount of time that I get no video with the radeon), and then the Mac OS X screen. This basically makes it so that, unless I switch my monitor to the onboard video (which is a hassle), I can't boot into single user mode and see what I'm doing (no quartz, no video), AND if I type >console into the login screen, then my monitor quits (again, no quartz, no video). I've been told that there is a way to reorder the driver's load order, so I'm wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to do so, so that I can see if I can make the radeon drivers load without Quartz.
I have no problem using the terminal and such, if that is necessary, and I can make a good backup of the system before I muck in it, so that is no fear either.
thanks!
