How can I find out which version of a given printer driver is presently installed?
Background: on the HP homepage there is a printer driver 1.5 for LaserJet 2100 series dated october 2003. I want to find out whether this driver is more recent then the one that is presently installed (MacOS X 10.3.2).

You can find the plugins in /Library/Printers.

Unfortunately it does not state the different printers and the version there.

Are you sure you are looking in the /Library/Printers folder at the root (top) level of your hard drive and not your home folder? There ought to be a folder in there named "HP" or something like it with all your printer plugins inside.
You could do a Finder search for "HP" to locate them as well.

There is a folder HP in Library/Printers. The contents of this is:
aio
deskjet
Frameworks
Icons
IO
PDEs
Profiles
Utilities
all of them being folders themselves.
There is nothing in these folders that looks like a LaserJet 2100TN driver and nothing that states a version.

I'm not familiar with the HP product line, is theLaserJet 2100TN an older model and if so did you use disc 3 of the Panther install to install the additional printer drivers (drivers for older printers)?

If you have the printer set up and ready for printing, you can open your Printer Setup Utility, click on your printer, then choose Show Info under the Printers menu. That should show the driver version.

The LaserJet 2100 is appr. 2 years old. It does work in Panther, although it is slower than it used to be. When I installed Panther I selected the LaserJet 2100 series in the installer and was asked for CD 2. CD 3 only has X11 and Epson drivers.
