Just bought a DVD player so I was looking around the video rental place to see what DVDs to pick up on Friday. Snagged the obligatory Matrix DVD--a disappointment since the disk was damaged--but was floored by The Emperor's New Groove, which I initially picked up for the kids.

I mean anything with David Spade can't be that good, right? But I was proved wrong. This Disney flick is smart and very funny and Eartha Kitt's performance as the villain is just over the top. I found myself watching certain scenes over and over again just to hear her phrasing. Magnificent. Kids liked it too.

Agreed. I actually own the movie.

Be warned that it's not really a "little kids movie", though. And in this case, I think that's a good thing.

Well, that's the beauty of it. Basically, they made a film with all the attitude of the old Warner cartoons. Tex Avery, Friz Freleng and the gang would be proud.

Yes! I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed the Tex Avery, etc. homage.

Most un-Disney like. I think that's its key selling point. Heh. Heh. :)
