Does anyone know how to mount (or display???) a machine in the /Network/Servers directory??
And for that matter, how do you use the other (Applications, Library, Users) dirs in the Network drive??? Do you need OSX Server or something???
I mean it looks pretty appealing, but I can't do anything constructive with it....

You have to go into the menus and select the Connect command, or something like that (I'm not in front of OSX at the moment). Yeah it's not obvious but that's the way.

What I mean is the 'Servers' dir in the 'Network' disk, as displayed in the Finder. What the 'Connect to Server' command does is place a network share (be it a directory or a disk/partition) in the '/Volumes' directory (as far as I have seen it).
There's gotta be some way to use this Network drive......

I believe it (the 'Network' drive) is there primarily to access NFS shares from other UNIX boxes, because there was no other GUI way of handling that.
I've heard one can also export shares from an OS X Server to this, and that I will test soon.

I believe this can be accomplished in Netinfo. Any Netinfo experts out there who care to chime in?
Specifically, this Apple Knowledge Base article (http://kbase.info.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/kbase.woa/wa/query?type=id&val=88158) might be a starting point. I would like to accomplish the same thing in terms of mounting servers in /Network (preferably automatically). I'm going to take a closer look at this when I get a chance, and if I find anything interesting, I'll post back.
In the meantime, comments from anyone who knows alot about Netinfo would be most welcome.

You are supposed to be able to define sharepoints with Server Admin in Mac OS X Server to mount automatically on the clients in Network/Applications or Network/Library or Network/Servers/servername.domain.tld/whatever.
However, I spent two days trying to get this to work without success. Everything appears on the client as it should but the sharepoint is not mounted and the directory is empty. Apparently the client sees the sharepoint but it isn't really there. And the system log on the client reports errors mounting the sharepoint.
So I used another method to get the job done (mounting the distant volumes through the Go menu or with an AppleScript). In this case, the sharepoints appear in /Volumes.
Hopefully someone will suggest a solution.

Try AFPAutomount <www.digitalspecter.com>
It will mount any volume on your network at startup or when you ask him.
this only requires a folder with aliases…
very great app!
I use it to mount some volumes at startup on my Server so I can see them with SFTP anywhere I am simply on loggin into one machine :)
I use it on all my 'clients' to automount my server discs.
Enjoy,
Try also Sharepoint but I've not used it. it seems very close to macintosh manager…
