Not sure if this is an OS X or Classic problem but...

Ok, very new to OS X here, but long time Mac user. I just noticed that after setting up our new dual 1 gig G4, that I can start Classic apps okay, but when I start any native X app as well, (control panel, IE, etc.,) my Classic environment crashes and takes the OS 9 apps that were running down as well, (obviously).

Question.....Why?

That why question is very difficult to answer. I'm not sure why IE, for example, should get tangled up in Classic unless you have IE for Classic open as well.

One suggestion that comes to mind would be to make Classic as lean as possible. If you skip down quite a few threads, you'll see something about configuring Classic; also on the Tweaking OS X forum. The principle is that if you don't need a certain control panel or extension to run a program, disable it. The fewer you have open, the more stable Classic will be.
