Hello,

I have just installed OS X 10.0 and upgraded to 10.1 on top of OS 9.1, just as it said in the manuals. However, when I try and launch the Classic environment I get the following error message 'You do not have sufficient permissions to run Classic from /System/Library/CoreServices. Please correct permissions and restart Classic'.
Could somebody help my get over this problem and correct permissions? I guess I have to use the terminal and run some kind of command. Unfortunately I am not that familiar with UNIX nor OS X as yet, so if anybody could help me I would be grateful.
Thanks

Try this

[17:26][brandg /Users/brandg] %ll /System/Library/CoreServices/
total 1932
...
drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 264 Dec 8 14:18 Classic Startup.app
...

Also, try

[17:28][brandg /Users/brandg] %ll /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ 9/
total 130644
...
drwxrwxrwx 69 brandg unknown 2302 Apr 8 04:13 System Folder
...

(replace /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ 9/ with whatever the directory is for your OS 9 partition. If it's on the same partition as X, just do ll /.)

If those are different, post what you get from the commands and we'll change them so they work, hopefully.

Greg gave you a possible solution using the Terminal.

Another that sometimes works is to select your Classic system folder as your startup disk in the System Preferences, then de-select and re-select it in the Classic preference. Then try to start up from it as Classic. Sometimes it's helped to actually restart your computer first from the Classic system folder.
