I've got a Beige G3 I'm setting up as an OS X Server, and I'd like to add FireWire support to it.
What PCI adapter cards are people having good luck with?
Thanks!

Craig--
I've had good luck with a $55 Western Digital FireWire card I picked up at Fry's. There were a couple of cheaper ones, but I didn't recognize the brands and wasn't feeling adventurous.
A friend of mine is running a Belkin dual USB/FireWire card on a first-generation G3, but not under OS X. I think Keyspan also sells a card; they're pretty good about supporting Macs.
Good luck!

Did you get it to work. I have promax firewire card in my Beige G3 and when I use Final Cut Pro, it doesn't see the firewire connection. Works fine in 9.2.2.
Hello everybody,
I installed an inland card (from Fry's) the other day (Beige G3/10.1.3) and it shows up ok in System Profiler but my CD-RW doesn't show on the bus when I plug it in. The same drive works great with my 2000 PowerBook. And this is the only firewire device I have.
I wasn't able to find any drivers for the card so I'm assuming what's built in to the system should do it (the box says Mac compatible, but that's it).
Any suggestions? Anybody else get something working? Maybe I should spend a few extra bucks and get one others have had success with.
TIA, Jim
Well, after updating to 10.1.4, I'm able to see the CD-RW on the FireWire bus inside System Profiler, but none of the programs I have recognize that there's a drive attached... Toast 5.1.3, Disk Copy, iTunes: all report no devices found.
Any ideas? TIA, Jim

I am wondering about a firewire card for a 9600. I have a need to hook up an external CD burner to a 9600 and was wondering if any of you have advice on which card to use. Thanks.

I have yet to find a generic Firewire card that doesn't work in a Mac. USB are another story as are Hybrid (Firewire/USB combo) cards. Some work others don't. Especially the 4 port USB cards. Usually only the first port works. I was very pleased to find a generic Hybrid card at CompUSA years ago for $12 that gave my 9500 clone both flawlessly! If you buy a card at CompUSA that doesn't work, just take it back and try the next least expensive card. Ignore the "Windows" requirement.
To use a Firewire card in the 9600, you will have to install Apple's Firewire Drivers (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86020) after installing the card. The OS 9 installer does not install the Firewire drivers unless the hardware is already present.
