I have read all the previous threads on this site regarding the f14,15,16 keys on the apple pro keyboard. The F14 and F15 keys control brightness, which is a VERY bad thing.
We have G5's with this keyboard, and an iMac G4, and we all do photo retouching. Its obviously very dangerous to have a key on the keyboard so easily change the brightness settings, therefore corrupting the screen calibration (of our LCD's) and ruining our whole colour worklow process without the user even knowing. We spend thousands of dollars a number of times a year to calibrate our screens, only to have a couple accidental typos ruin this work.
Seeing as apple is doing the usual forced migration to a supposedly better product with the pro keyboard, why is it they don't allow one to change the function of f14, f15 and f16, and why is it that considering the number of prepress and photography users on mac, that apple overlooked this fundamental flaw?
I have tried using iKey and cannot get the keys to remap to another function. At this stage I would be happy enough just to be able to stop F14 and F15 from acting as brightness controls, but would be even happier if I could remap using ikey - or another utility, without an unnatractive hack (although if a hack is the only way, I'll happily accept suggestions).
Does anyone know what apple's status is on this? We are all on 10.3.3, and all the apple pro keyboards exhibit the problem, but the blue/black keyboards that came with quicksilver g4's don't do it. I have tried to no avail with the keyboard preferences under system preferences.
Any help much appreciated, as this is a really significant problem for our business.
