This is a program I saw on versiontracker that lets you see what is going on over your network, in a graph or text, either as a floating window, in the dock, or in the menubar. Not necessarily useful, but it's pretty neat, and works well.
It's freeware. Uses about between 0 and 2% of the CPU.
