I prefer the column view myself, but I'm just* wondering what others like.
*plus, I wanted to see what it was like to post a poll. Yes, I have too much time on my hands.

I like column but...no sorting options in column (date mod, size).
still have to use list occasionally. :)

I stay mostly in icon view because I find things visually. For folders with large numbers of files though, I stay in list view. And for moving things about, I switch to column view. It is the easiest and most efficient.

Column view here, too, as I was even using this in OS 9 with Simple Browser.
Two Column view Finder windows lets me move things around faster and cleaner than anything I could ever do in < OS 9 with spring-loaded folders. I've actually put it to the clock; no contest.

Took a while to get used to column view, but now I feel dirty if I use anything else :)
Just a quick bug-question : I've generally got my finder windows set up much as Rob suggests (ie wide and shallow), and I like to have all the columns set to minimum width unless I specifically want one of them wider (to read file names or whatever)
However, any time I have to restart finder (reboot, logout etc), I find that the column widths reset to slightly larger than minimum, and I have to resize them down. For the rest of the session, this setting "sticks" for every new window I open, but if I have to restart the finder for any reason, I get the ugly wide-column setting again.
I've tried trashing the personal prefs. No luck. I've also tried setting the columns WIDER than the wide default, and THAT setting survives a restart. This is one of those really, REALLY annoying bugs that's so small that it shouldn't bother you, but is annoying cos I can't find an explanation for why it's happening.
Anyway, aside from that, column view roxxors my soxxors :)

I don't know if this will help in your case, but I like my columns a little wider than the default. I've noticed that the first finder window opens up in the older size, but if I close that and open up a new window, it is set to my preference.

My view changes depending on the window. Some are icon, some are list. I rarely use column, but I guess I'm just not used to it yet.
Column view all the way from the beginning.
And two column view Finder windows pop up when I'm in a hurry, I call it 'Caffeine' (the script).
Cheers...

Where's the option "all of the above"? :) I can't vote in this one since my preference isn't on the list.
I use all of the views. I change the view depending on what I'm trying to do at the moment. I find certain views to work better for certain things.
The only thing I'm still trying to get used to with the column view is whether my "selection" will be on the far left side of the window or the far right. I wish there was a setting that could tell it to always make my selected file (or folder) in the middle of the window. I like seeing where I am, where I'm going and where I've been all at once.
