Appletalk quits on sleep

I have a network of 3 OS X machines and an old Q840AV running 8.1. I mount the Quadra drives on the OS X machines using Appletalk, so I can get to my MP3s and digital photos stored on the old box. Problem is, when a new machine goes to sleep, Appletalk quits. When I wake up the new machine, the Quadra mounted drive is no more. I have to wait for the spinning cursor to stop so the computer can then tell me the obvious, and then I have to manually reconnect.

Is there any way around this annoying problem?
