Installing X was a breeze... took about 30 minutes! compare that to the hours it takes to install windows. ;)
I have a usb laser printer, a firewire cdrw, and a usb scanner.
ALL my hardware worked fine after installing X, but the scanner.
still waiting for epson to create a driver for that.
I Only boot in 9 to scan, and ive deleted most of my classic apps.... I want to be all natice... NO more classic!
goodbye os 9. rip.

See if VueScan (find at VersionTracker) supports your Epson.

me too! i have to use classic to scan from my D1230U Epson Scanner
I just open classic and the scanner works fine...as does all the software that came with it (the copy machine, OCR, etc). I never have to reboot...that's the beauty of OS X.
Anyway, epson has a program called "Scan to File" that works alright. I haven't used it much because I mostly use the scanner as a photocopier, so I'm stuck in classic for a while. (You can get scantofile on the apple downloads page.)
I have to say that I'm getting a little peeved at epson for the delay in getting a driver out. the only thing I can think of is that they are going to release it with 10.2 so that the next update doesn't break it right away. but who knows.

mad at epson? me too...
but It could get worse... I read that they "may" charge people $4 for a X compatible driver... :(
this seems like an unfair business practice..??
I hope its not true..
