What scanner driver software have you found that works in OS X?
I'm aware of VueScan by hamrick.com but having difficulty getting it to work for my old Epson.
Does anyone know of a driver that works with an Epson Perfection 600 scanner (SCSI bus device) that is preferably OS X or at least Classic compatible?

Yep, VueScan seems to be the only game in town so far...happened to work for my Umax Powerlook 1100 but doesn't for many other unsupported scanners. Keep watching VersionTracker as he seems to update it almost weekly.

Since 10.1.2, I've been able to use my UMAX 4000U in Classic, where before, I had to reboot into OS 9. Still not the ideal, but better.
Disappointing the UMAX and others haven't provided updated drivers!

Seems Canon isn't doing too good a job with their scanner drivers either. I've got a 1220U and they still seem to think that OS X is too 'new and different' to have a driver written for it. The only thing I've got to start Classic for is now scanning...

Don't hold your breath for Umax support, I've seen many responses to user queries from them re OS X support and it seems like they are just stringing the Mac userbase along...

I work with a photographer, digitalizing images.. We use a FlexTight Precision II and there are no drivers available for X.
It's the only thing keeping us from going completely X on the workstation using the scanner..
Anyone heard something about future releases of drivers from Imacon?

Did you guys try turning on the scanner first before you started the computer?

for what its worth, my canon 650u works great in classic with problem. does the 1220u not work in classic?
I agree I'd like to have OSX drivers, but since I can use it fine, its not bothering me....yet.
I have a HP scanjet 5470c.
Vuescan doesn't support it.
The classic app that came with the scanner works but has trouble detecting the scanner's presence. I sometimes have to powercycle the scanner before the classic app detects it.
HP's website says there will be an OSX driver in Spring 2002. An email from their support department said the OSX driver was due last year and that they are running late releasing it.

As of 5/21/2002 Epson (Jill, Tech Support 562-276-4382) drivers are still not available from Epson. The mail in card with Perfection 1250, 1250 Photo, 1650, 1650 Photo and 2450 Photo and your $3.99 put you in a waiting list for FUTURE mailing at a yet to be announced date. Tech support has no date for availability. Users are able to use these products in Classic, with VueScan, or even under Virtual PC in Windows environment. Dissatisfied customers may voice their concerns by paying for a phone call to customer support at 562-276-1311.
Additionally, I pointed out that on their website
http://support.epson.com/hardware/scanner/pr165_/index.html
the page clearly states "support and driver information is now available..for Mac OS X."
Support consists of "run it in Classic" and driver information consists of "it is not available yet."
According to my telephone conversation with support, "Epson could not begin development until OS X was actually released, and Unix was a new environment for them. They have always provided excellent support for Apple products since their inception. "
I can't say I agree on much of their written or verbal statement.

VueScan works for me in OS X now running native. I have an Epson 600 Perfection scanner.

I don't even get responses from UMAX anymore, the jerks.
They used to send something to the effect of wait for 10.1, I think they are just hoping no one notices if they don't support OS X (course, XP drivers were out almost immediately...)

I've got the same scanner. HP now says "summer 2002." I wonder if the drivers will support all those buttons on the front (copy, fax, etc.) -- but I'd say that's ambitious if the drivers are so tardy.

I have the 1220U and I've been able to scan w/o classic using the VueScan software others have mentioned.
