I have an irritating problem with my ipod. There are quite a few(all the good ones  )songs on my ipod, as well as my GF's ipod that just won't play. They play perfectly well on both our computers, but when they come up on the ipod, they will freeze and won't play the song at all. The same problem occurs when just selecting the song. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem. Just FYI in case it helps, we are both using WinXP machines, both fairly new, and have a Gen 3 ipod(the one with no buttons) and transfer using Firewire
My iPod rules, cept it has a few problems here and there, please help

What are the file formats of the songs? (mp3, aac, etc...)

most of the fileswere gotten off of cd's, and ripped using iTunes, some were gotten offa kazza latest version. Also, most of these songs had played once before, just seemed to stop playing. Might they be corrupted?

It is certainly possible that they are corrupt, however, if you are sure they play on your computer, but not on your iPod, i would try restoring the iPod's software (using the latest iPod updater software) and then reload all of your songs that you know work.
If they play on your computer, they should play on your iPod (unless you had some weird plug-ins for iTunes that aren't supported on iPod like the .ogg plugin, but that doesn't sound like the case at all)
But yeah, just make absolutely sure that they play on your computer -- you don't want to have to go restoring (reformatting, you will lose ALL data on it) your iPod for no reason.

The software on the iPod is the most current version. All the files apear to be of the same format as well. when this happens the harddrive spins as if its trying to read the file...and if you wait long enough it will move onto the next song. do you suggest just formatting the drive and reloading all the songs. the songs were loaded on before the iPod was updated, could that be causing the problem?

i would try the reformat/reload and see if the problem still exists.
Depending on the size of your library, it shouldn't take more than 10 to 20 minutes (it takes me about 15 minutes with a 11.4 GB library)

try running this ScanDisk to check for errors on your IPOD. looks like you have some bad sectors on it...
this link below will show you how...
