My girlfriend and I both have iPods (one 1G and one 3G) which we have always successfully synchronized with iTunes on our separate accounts on a 17" iMac.
However, the last time each of us tried to sync, the iPod would mount as a volume (hard drive), but not in iTunes. Neither of us has ever enabled hard disk mode on the iPods.
The only way we could get either iPod to mount in iTunes was to do a factory restore using the iPod updater application.
What could cause both of these iPods to fail to show up in iTunes?
