Is it full? When you click on the iPod in iTunes, at the bottom of the window it tells you how much free space it has? How much?

Hi,
I'm not even getting the ipod icon in itunes when I connect (which is odd cos it was there before). Guess I should have mentioned this.
I've also tried rebooting, re-installing the software and resetting the ipod. Oh and holding the menu and play buttons at the same time. None of these works !
Cheers.

What kind of Mac? What version of the OS? What version of iTunes? Does the iPod appear on the Desktop as a firewire device?

With the iPod plugged in, take a look in Apple System Profiler (Select "About This Mac…" under the Apple menu and click "More Info…") under the Firewire section.

If the iPod isn't showing up in Profiler, I'd try on another Mac. Try one at the local Mac dealer if need be. If it shows up there, the problem's in your Mac. If not, the problem could be your cable or the iPod itself.

I really don't like to pass judgment on the condition of hardware until the proper diagnostics have been performed. It could be other things, including a simple software solution. It's not fair to cause unnecessary worry before we know for sure.
