When I connect my 3G 10MG iPod into my Mac G4 running in osX 10.2.8 it is not recognized by my computer. Just started all the sudden. It will still charge but I cannot get the computer or itunes to acknowledge the poor iPod's existence. I am stumped and don't know what to do. I read somewhere that reformatting the iPod to the factory software helps but since the darn computer won't recognize the iPod I cannot perform this task. Someone please help, I just want some new music!

Have you tried to log in as a different user and checked that the problem still exists?

Hmm. Same thing happend to my room mate and me. Different iPods and different accounts on the same 17" iMac. All of a sudden the iPods wouldn't mount in iTunes. We ended up having to do a soft reset of each iPod and then all was well. Inquiries on this forum produced no replies.

This also happens when I try connecting to my computer at work. Now my battery seems to be fried or something too, so I think I might be having bigger problems than I thought. Doesn't seem to be keeping a charge. Don't know if these two are somehow related or what the heck is going on. I have a connector that has the USB and firewire connector on it and just for kicks I connected with the USB, and my computer can recognize it that way but obviously does not charge through the USB, but when I connect through Firewire, nothing. This same thing happens on my G4 at work. ??? I am stumped.

Often times my iPod won't mount via firewire, but disconnecting my iSight "fixes" the problem. Unsure why this is, but has been happening since 10.2 on my PM G4 MDD. I have heard other have had a similar problem and was traced to the amount of power being drawn from the firewire ports... adding a powered firewire bridge was the solution for them.
