Okay, I know there are quite a few other threads out there that are similar. I have looked at them all and found no solution to my problem, except to reinstall the operating system. Since I am at a university on a university owned computer, they don't give me the os, so that isn't an option.
My 40gb 4th gen ipod connects fine in the finder, but itunes doesn't recognize it. The iPod Updater also doesn't recognize the ipod. I have tried searching for "itunes" and deleting everything but the library, then reinstalling iTunes 4.6. It worked one time, then never again. I also tried the same thing for "ipod," same results. I tried logging in under another user; still doesn't mount in itunes. I hooked it up to another computer, same os, same everything else, and it worked! So it isn't my cable. I also read that it could be my FW connections on the cpu. I would assume my other FW devices that I am piggybacking with wouldn't work either if that was the problem.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it.
