After I've been using my machine for a while, trying to log onto the internet takes longer and longer. The spinning cursor appears and the whole machine locks up for up to minutes at a time. Has anyone else had this experience and can you offer any solutions?
PowerMac G4 500MZ
OSX 10.1.2
Internet Connect 1.1

i'm assuming this is connect via modem ?
can you tell us if it's the dialing sequence or post-modem handshake (don't hear modem squaking anymore) time to finally have access.

That's right, I'm connecting via the built-in modem.

It seems to be the dialling sequence which is delayed. In other words I have to wait for a shorter or longer period of time before the modem dials out. After that everything seems just fine.
This situation is cured by restarting the machine.
Best wishes

is there a telephone connected to this modem-wall jack situation?
if there is, when this episode happens, i wonder what the dial tone sounds like?

Yes, there's a telephone on the same line. I've never tried to listen to what's going on via the phone because I'd assumed I'd hear it via the speakers hooked up to my Mac. I think there's just a period of inactivity until finally the computer gets the modem to dial out. After that everything seems fine. So the delay seems to be in dialling out in the first place. Does this answer your question?
Thanks for your help.
