i posted on a few other places and got a reply... the instruction we have been following to reset have been all wrong! we are nto supposed to hold the play and menu buttons, we are supposed to hold the select (center button) and the menu button, after i did this mine works! im soo happy now!

i'm having the same problem too. when i plug either my 20gb 3rd gen or 40gb 3rg gen, the do not disconnect sign comes up and the image appears on the desktop. it is not, however, recognized by iTunes. Apple said to reinstall iTunes which i was about to do anyway when upgrading to Panther (from my curent 10.2.8) I tried the menu-select button but it didn't work. neither did pause-menu. For some reason, i think this has happened before to me but fixed itself. I'm not going to have time to upgrade for a week maybe but in the meantime, i have some new music on the eMac that I really want on the pods. Do I really need to reinstall software?
