Looks really nice, i don't know if i would use it for photos, but it's nice to see a color LCD iPod (even if i did just buy my 4th Gen in August :))

While, I don't want one for myself, my first reaction was that they'd be great holiday gifts for my husband, kids, kids-in-law. Then I checked the price. It stands to reason that they'd be more expensive than the audio version, but I never imagined the $499 and $599 price tags. I'm guessing they won't be "cheaper by the dozen."

Leave it to Apple to continue the Ferrari price mentality... don't get me wrong, I love my Macs (all of them), and wouldn't own a PC unless my life depended on it (maybe not even then), but the pricing scheme reinforces the stereotype that Macs are too expensive for the common consumer. Imagine a $199 iPod and a $299 iPod photo (in my dreams). :-(

I wonder if it will also automatically display the album artwork for the current track? That'd be cool.

Yes, judging from one of the photos in it's gallery (http://www.apple.com/ipodphoto/gallery/photoplaying.html). I like that feature!

Eminently practical. The 60 Gb would actually have space for my iPhoto Library and most of my iTunes tunes. And with connectivity (is Belkin needed?) for transfering new photos directly from my digital camera, this means that I wouldn’t have to cart my laptop everywhere.
With the hefty price tag, I won’t be buying one anytime soon. It’s probably great, however, for professional photographers and gadget conscious people with a thick wallet.
Cheers!

PS I think my best bet is to expect a nice package under the tree, courtesy of the Norwegian IRS. After all, it would be a modest return on what I’ve graciously (albeit involuntarily) given them through the years...

By the way, anyone know if I can import the photos directly from my camera (Nikon CoolPix 5700) onto the iPod? And from there to my Mac?
Or is extra equipment required -- such as the Belkin Media Reader?

An obvious thing the iPod Photo is crying for is Keynote integration. Presentations to go.

You know, I hate to be an iconoclast; and I know Steve says photos are the next big thing; but I just don't want one. I really love my iPod and use it every day. I own and use a digital camera. I still don't want one. Perhaps as more functionality is added and the thing evolves further, maybe ...
My prediction: these will find a less-than-anticipated market.

Also, still waiting until Apple makes a PDA. It could be called the iPad!
Or I guess with a few more features, the iPod could be a PDA

NO! A PDA that actually is successful, the Newton wasn't. It would have the same theme as the iPod, color touch screen, projection keyboard, and a kind of Mini Mac OSX.
It would kick Pocket PC's @$$! :D
