I just read on MacMinute.com that the new iTunes update disables iPodDownload. How unfortunate! I object to the fact that my iPod can only be associated with ONE iTunes library. iPodDownload presented an elegant work-around!

I want to be able to transfer music between our various computers, which have different iTunes libraries. The easiest way for me to do this is to use the iPod -- and to freely select the tunes that I want to transfer. After all, it’s my music, and I don’t want unnecessary hassle.

My questions:
• Can I easily switch back to iTunes 4.6? (Where can I download it?)
• Are there any disadvantages to sticking with 4.6?
• Can I have both 4.6 and 4.7 installed -- but with one library?

Does anyone know of a way to get around this? Perhaps a new, improved version of iPodDownload...

Just go to VersionTracker and download one of the MANY iPod downloader apps, such as (but not limited to):

iPod.iTunes
Senuti
iPodRip
iPod Util
PodWorks

Thanks!
Do you know if these work with iTunes 4.7 as well? Or could it be that Apple really has managed to lock each iPod to just ONE iTunes library?

Curious...

iPodDownload is an iTunes plug-in, so it has to run in iTunes. There are plenty of other apps out there that are stand-alone apps (they don't run inside iTunes).

Or maybe this one (http://playlistmag.com/weblogs/todayatplaylist/2004/11/whiners/index.php) does.

Who'd have ever imagined there was more than one side to a story.

Thanks for the link to the iPodDownload fixer.

And Craig: good article, interesting perspective with perfectly legit arguments. Especially liked the final point -- which I wish more people had taken to their heart.

Yesterday, MacMinute.com reported on iPodDownload 1.1, which is compatible with iTunes 4.7. I was hoping that would happen, but I noticed it too late.

Does anyone know where it may be downloaded? Apparently Engadget.com had it poste, but it’s gone.
