Is there any way to format my iPod on my Mac to a Windows recognizable formatting? I want to transfer files to Windows computer with it. I can get to a PC, but I get hives : ). For some reason Apple won't just format all iPods with Wintel compatible file system.

Use the iPod Upgrade Program for Windows and click Restore. This will format and reinstall the firmware, and erase all your music. You'll be able then attach it with a Mac, and it will open the iPod Wizard thing, and it will sync the music back. One small problem is that the FAT32 file system seems to lag on Mac OS X, it took up to a minute or two before iTunes realized it exists.

I opened this thread expecting it to confirm my fears, that you have to use a peecee to format a mac formatted iPod to a windows FAT32 format.
If i can format it as a FAT32 disk through disk utility, why can I not format it for windblows through the iPod utility. Annoying feature or lack of apple.

Does anyone know (or have experience) with converting a Mac-formatted iPod to Windows and then back again?
I need to test out some software that requires a Windows-formatted iPod, but I would like to put it back once I am done.
Should I be worried?

In short....no. I did this becuase I thought I would hook my iPod up to a PC but decided that apple was the only way to go. So I went HFS ---> FAT32 ----> HFS with no problems at all.

If you so choose, and can accept the sludgy mounting speed, can you use the iPod on/with the Mac while formatted FAT32? If so, and assuming you disable that auto-sync thing, can you load some tunes onto it from a PC and some songs onto it from a Mac, at will?
