I have a 20g and it was just about full of my music. My computer crashed and had to buy a new one.
Of course all the mp3 in the itunes library were gone. When I reconnected the ipod a question I cant really remember was asked and i said yes...i think. now all my music is gone!!!!
However, the data still does appear to be there cause the message is that most of the gig's are in use...
Is there anyway for me to recover the songs on the ipod????
Like the lead says...I'm not really a geek and this new stuff is sooooooooo confusing!!

Last week I also succumbed to the same fate - HD crashed, no problem - songs on iPod, reinstalled iTunes on a new HD, said yes to some confusing message about relinking, no more songs on iPod.
Have cruised far to many boards in search of a solution, with the only conclusion that this has happened to a lot of people. However either nobody has come up with a fix, or lots have only never to return to the board to advise what they did.
So if you have found the answer, please respond !!

 Sorry to hear about your HD's failing.. I'm not sure this will help (might be too late): If you guys are on Macs, then I would have tried using any of the many programs that transfer music from iPod to Mac. Here's a search at VersionTracker (http://www.versiontracker.com/php/search.php?mode=basic&action=search&str=ipod+mac&plt%5B%5D=macosx&x=13&y=8). It would probably have been a lot better to have tried this before you reconnected your iPod with a Mac without music.
However, yakabebe says there is a message that the GB are still in use.. I'm assuming this message was on your iPod under Info? If it was, there must be a way to get the data off of there (Target Disk Mode? .. I've never used this feature, so not sure if your music would be accessable). Hopefully someone else here in the forums can give a better suggestion.. But good luck, and hope that helped a little.

I hope you have all your music backed up elsewhere. If so, it may be time to reformat the ol' pod.
