I was surfing away with Mozilla rc3, had three or four windows open with multiple tabs in each, not paying a whole lot of attention, as I was focused on trying to help the good member of this forum. :p Noticed the sytem getting sluggish, and the little cpu monitor that resides in my menu bar was going upwards of 98%! I had a few other apps running, including terminal, so I did a quick top to see what was up. Sure enough it was mozilla. I clicked over to see how many windows I had open, and noticed a pop under add had appeared. As soon as I closed it, cpu usage dropped back down to a reasonable rate.
POP OVERS, POP UNDERS, POP ON CLOSE -- THEY ALL SUCK! Not only do they annoy, they can bring your cpu to it's knees!
I know, I can disable them through mozilla prefs, but that stops my work webmail from working properly. Thank you MS exchange.
Just wanted to share. :)
