From your friendly neighborhood software update.
Follow-up: installed on 3 machines, so far so good. The 10.1.5 Server update is not out yet, but this one does install on Server.
Lerkfish: see if this takes care of the MO drive problem. :)

finally, the cursor moves when i stomp on it and hold. it always seemed sluggish to me. now it leaves a smoke trail.
couple of problems:
sendmail was updated, now:
$ mailq -v
Msmtp: Warning: first argument in [IPC] mailer must be TCP or FILE
Mesmtp: Warning: first argument in [IPC] mailer must be TCP or FILE
Msmtp8: Warning: first argument in [IPC] mailer must be TCP or FILE
Mdsmtp: Warning: first argument in [IPC] mailer must be TCP or FILE
Mrelay: Warning: first argument in [IPC] mailer must be TCP or FILE
Warning: .cf file is out of date: sendmail 8.12.2 supports version 10,
.cf file is version 9
do i gotta m4 sendmail.cf ?
cron broke? or is it sendmail...
$ sudo sh /sw/sbin/logcheck.sh
# spits out...
$ can not chdir(/var/spool/clientmqueue/): No such file or directory
i see an entry in the update bom about /var/spool/clientmqueue , but i don't have one. i'll mkdir it and see...
getting worse, always the case.
$ ll /var/spool/clientmqueue/ -d
drwxr-x--- 2 root wheel 24 Jun 4 19:47 /var/spool/clientmqueue//
$ sudo sh /sw/sbin/logcheck.sh
$ can not chdir(/var/spool/clientmqueue/): Permission denied
Program mode requires special privileges, e.g., root or TrustedUser.
in system.log...
Jun 4 19:48:19 gunther sendmail[16298]: NOQUEUE: SYSERR(root):
can not chdir(/var/spool/clientmqueue/): Permission denied
anyone else getting sendmail schmutz?

sendmail no worky on my machine now. Even if I send root something as root. Here's what I've noticed:
1) /var/log had some extra files after the upgrade:
README, access, access.db, and submit.cf are new
2) /var/spool/clientmqueue is news to me (I did have the dir already)
3) permission were grour writable on /var/spool/mqueue
I changed perms to g-w on / and /var/spool/mqueue before testing sendmail. Could this have something to do with our sendmail woes?

TiMan, i guess i'm gonna hafta start a thread, but i'm pretty weary right now. i do have more news about sendmail. but we should prolly start another thread to discuss it.
$ sudo ls -ld /var/spool/clientmqueue/
drwx------ 12 smmsp smmsp 364 Jun 4 21:47 /var/spool/clientmqueue/

Yeah, good idea. I saw some crazy stuff in single user mode. Looking forward to your post tomorrow.

I see these files, but in /etc/mail not /var/log; they all definitely apply to sendmail.

/var/spool/clientmqueue appears to be created by the 10.1.5 update; the bom lists permissions for user and group 25, but these don't exist when the update is running. The postflight script creates the user and group 25, called smmsp (Sendmail Message Submission Program according to my OpenBSD box), but since that happens after file install, I suppose the installer punts and defaults to root/wheel.

My /var/spool/mqueue remained 750, and isn't listed in the 10.1.5 update at all.
It appears Apple has updated sendmail to the 8.12 tree, which is why things are different...guess it's time to read up on what 8.12 changes.

Great news, there, lerk!
It was a smooth upgrade, and I haven't noticed any benefits or problems (obviously I don't use sendmail). I haven't been using it long, however.

I'm getting the same sendmail errors now too. I'm just using it to report on those daily, weekly, monthly maintenance scripts. Do you know how long it took me to figure the sendmail stuff out so it would work? Sorry, just indulging in a moment of self pity. Back to work!
Also, I updated 6/4 after the daily cron job ran. On 6/5 the cron job ran at it's usual time but the mail part of it died. Today, 6/6, cron didn't run at all. Exact same behavior on 2 computers. The systems don't sleep so it's not because they weren't on.
Geez, I hate discovering this stuff at midnight. I'm too tired. I'll look at this tomorrow. mervTormel, let us know if you move this to another thread.
Thanks.

Check out this MacNN thread (http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=002216). I just quickly scanned the thread because my reading comprehension isn't too good right now. Must sleep.

enola, thanks.
i've been lurking for that kind of stuff, some of it is correct, most, a lot of noise. i haven't started another thread because i've been wool-gathering.
sendmail's rev and config has changed and some sendmail upgrades succeeded, others failed without report. i shall try and summarize in a new thread soon.
if you want any particulars, so far, email me. perhaps we can collaborate. TiMan too. he's sent me helpful blurbs .
combat nap for me now (one eye open, ever vigilant)
