View Full Version : Can't directly open Classic files

I'm not entirely sure when this started happening, but I can no longer open Classic files by double-clicking on them. For instance, if I have a .psd file and double-click it, Classic will boot and Photoshop will open, but the file will not appear. If I drag stuff onto the Dock icon, the app will come to the front, but the files won't open. The only way I can open files in Classic applications seems to be by using the app's File/Open dialogue, which seems odd.
I do have a few haxies installed, but am certain that this behaviour didn't occur immediately after installing any of them.
Does anyone else have this problem, and if so, how did you fix it (if you did)?
Thanks in advance for any advice...

Hmm, I can't say I've actually tried drag-and-dropping classic files on classic apps since the early 10.1 days last year, but I dont think there was a problem with it.
If you Show Info on the document, does it tell you which app it's set to open in? Yes it may launch the App, but it sounds like something is getting confused somewhere along the line, so you may want to check that out first.
I'll try to look into it when I get home.

I have the same problem with the Mac I use at work, but I can double click on files and have Classic apps open them on my Mac at home. The only difference I can find between the two machines is that the Mac at home runs Classic on the same drive as OS X while the Mac at work has Classic on a separate drive. Do you run Classic on the OS X drive/partition? I haven't tried moving Classic to the OS X drive at work, so I don't know if this would fix the problem.

OS X and 9 are on the same partition. I also tried rebuilding the Classic desktop, but that didn't make any difference. I didn't think it would anyway, seeing as OS X already knew what app to open the files in, according to the Get Info dialog...
This is really annoying me, and it doesn't look like there's any sort of fix. :-(
Any more help/advise would be much appreciated.
