Hi, I am testing our new set up here at work. We are using a proxy server. Each time a user tries to access the net, they are redirected to a secure (https) page on the proxy server that allows them to log in and authenticate as a user with web priveleges.

It works great with the PC's, however whenever we try in on Mac OS X 10.1.2 with the latest software update we have no luck. Instead of redirecting to the page https://ourproxy.localnet/login it redirects to http://ourproxy.localnet/login note the site we are redirected to is http with out the s. If we manually add the s in. It works and takes us to the site.

Any thoughts why I.E. in OS X won't let us go to that site? Any PC with IE has no problems. Also, I tried Mozilla, Netscape and Opera. None of them worked, they just timed out and never made it to the http version of the site.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance. And by the way Rob, I love the forums, thanks for making the site better and better.

Greg

Came to find out the Proxy was down when I tried the Mozilla, NetScape, Opera and Icab browsers. That would explain why they all timed out.

I'll update with more later after I have tried them again.

Thanks,

Greg

K, so this is getting interesting, I tried the Netscape, and it worked fine. No problems, it functioned as it should.

So we ran a trace. When Explorer tries to access the URL through the Proxy, it uses a "connect" command. However Netscape uses a "Get" command. Anyone know what the difference is between the two, and if there is some way to get IE to use the Get insteas of connect.

Thanks,

Greg

Is a microsoft server you're trying to get through?

what might also be of help (as far as explaining what's going on) is to read the WinroutePro user's manual:

www.tinysoftware.com

it's rather well written, in aneasy to understand way, expaling the issues involved (even though you're not using that product)...

No, it's not a Microsoft Proxy, its our inhouse Product/Proxy.

Came to find out the connect was do the the fact we the IE proxy set to use Tunneling, it has to connect first, so it can tunnel traffic through.

However, we are still having issues with the redirect. It won't redirect to the secure login, where one has to authenticate, before the Proxy allows it to surf. I can't think of any reasons why a I.E. won't redirect. If we type in the address it is supose to be redirected to, it works fine, the page loads up, and we can log in and continue surfing. Every other browser we have tried works fine. So I am baffled as to why IE won't.

Any one know if there is some knowledge base, or Brain dump for I.E. know issues and bugs.

Thanks,

Greg Montgomery
