i posted a threat under 'systems', and got a few responses. but i'm gonna try here to see if i can get some more responses and maybe someone who has done this before can make a posting (please?).
i installed osx on my powerbook g3 (lombard), on the same partition as my existing os9.2 system. however, sooner or later, i'll have all the apps i want running on osx. so there'll be no need for os9 anymore.
what's the best way to get rid of os9- just trashing the os9 system folder or doing a clean install using just osx?
i'd like to do this so i can save up valuable disk space- my lombard only comes with a 4gb hard drive. hey- back when i bought it, 4 gigs was huge!

I'd say just go ahead and trash the os 9 stuff and then empty the trash. Except for the possibility of the Classic and Startup Disk Pref Panes still pointing to it, there should be no problem.

The best way is to reformat and reinstall. The easy and fun way is to trash the OS 9 System Folder.
In general, I still consider this to be a bad idea until it is proven that Apple has released firmware updaters that run natively in OS X.
And wkm2424, please don't start the same thread in two different locations. Pretty much the only result will be that the answers are scattered in multiple places, making it more difficult to follow.
I'm going to close the other thread and place a link to this one, I guess.

Make a backup for archive purposes, then do what I did, and hit the big shiny "FORMAT" button, it's quite theraputic too :)
It's the cleanest way to run X, nuking 9 by ditching it via the trash is entertaining, but this way round you cut out the remote possibilties of something going askew (such as it attempting to hunt for a now non-existent classic, it shouldn't happen, but if the faintest possibility exists, that's good enough).
If you are feeling truly and utterly sadistic, trash 9, then whilst it's in the trash, format the hard disk :D Nothing quite satisfies those base urges for violence and distruction than the glorious sound of your HD obliterating everything in sight.
Another side benefit of rebuilding X, provided you do this before killing it, is to grab the latest combo update, that way you avoid a whole bunch of incremental patches.
Hope this helps :)
