How lock Safari icons/favicons folder (lock box grayed out)

It's easy to empty the Safari icons folder, but how does one lock it from accumulating new favicons if Get Info shows the icons folder's lock box is grayed out? Thanks. Norm

Create a TexEdit file and name it "Icons", no extension. Lock it and replace the folder "Icons" with it in your User/Library/Safari folder. That should do it. Close Safari before you do this.

As a help to beginners:

You'll want to change the order of the original directions, because once you lock the folder you create you won't be able to move it from the Desktop to the ~Library/Safari folder.

Reordered directions:
1.Create a TexEdit file and name it "Icons", no extension.
2. Replace the folder "Icons" with it in your User/Library/Safari folder.
3. Lock the new flder Icons.

Old Toad, with your directions, I was almost there, close enough for a bit of trial and error for me to get it to work even before Irene posted. Here's what I did and what finally worked.

How to keep favicons/icons from being saved in Safari
1. Quit Safari
2. Create a TextEdit file and name it "Icons"
3. Remove the extension TextEdit puts in both the file name and GetInfo.
4. Replace the folder "Icons" with the file in your User/Library/Safari folder.
5. Lock the new “Icons” file.

Using the same methods as above, I created a file called "WebpageIcons.db" and locked it. Managed to do the trick.
