I installed a generic DVD-ROM instead of the standard cd-rom drive of my Beige G3 300 Mini Tower and it won't read any cd or dvd under OS X (10.1.2). I runned Apple System profiler, which saw the drive and displayed info for it, but not for the disc that was inside the drive. When I opened the DVD player it said that no dvd-rom drive was found. However, when booting from classic the dvd-rom reads both cd's and dvd's. Any thoughts??? I tested once the dvd-rom that came with the first G4 (it was a Hitachi dvd-rom i think) and worked perfectly, even dvd movies playback.

thanks for any help you can give me.
